Eddie Van Halen’s widow Janie Liszewski has paid tribute to her husband with a heartbreaking post.
The late guitar great died Tuesday (Oct. 6), aged 65, following a decades-long battle with cancer.
Liszewski, a one-time stuntwoman and later a publicist for the band Van Halen, is broken by his passing.
“My husband, my love, my Peep,” she writes of her husband of 11 years. “My heart and soul have been shattered into a million pieces. I never knew it was possible to cry so many tears or feel such incredible sadness.”
Their journey, she continues, was “not always been an easy one but in the end and always we have a connection and love that will always be. Saying goodbye is the hardest thing I have ever had to do so instead I say so long.”
The tender message is accompanied with a photo of the couple’s grubby feet, framed by waves rolling in on the beach. “I will see you again soon in a place with no pain or sorrow. Please watch over Kody and I. We love you and miss you so very much. Love, your PooPee,” she signs off.
The guitar hero’s death triggered a global outpouring of grief from fans and the music community. Rage Against the Machine axeman summed up the loss: “Apex talent. An unparalleled titan in the annals of rock n roll. One of the greatest musicians in the history of mankind. Rest In Peace, King Edward.”
Van Halen erupted out of Los Angeles in the late 1970s and went on to become one of the biggest rock bands on the planet. Their signature song “Jump” was Van Halen’s only No. 1 hit, among 16 top 40 hits, on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, spending five weeks atop the list in 1984. The also landed five albums atop the Billboard 200.
The rockers were inducted into the Rock Hall in 2007.
